Thursday
Night Special
These seven designs resulted from an experiment in December, 1989.
Carolyn Hook, of It's A Crewel World in Salem, Massachusetts, asked her
Thursday night needlework class to create some original ornaments using
Watercolours. Each person in the class was given a skein of
Watercolours, a piece of 18-count mono canvas, and needles; metallic
threads were optionally available. Several stitch books were placed on
the table. The creativity abounded, resulting in the seven ornaments in
this booklet.
Suggested Retail Price: $5.00
Each ornament uses a 6" square of 18-count mono canvas, about
1/2 skein of Watercolours, and several yards of Kreinik #16 braid.
Jessica's Diamond uses almost an entire 10 meter reel of Kreinik. With
the exception of Jessica's Diamond, any of the ornaments could be worked
entirely in Watercolours. I personally like to use metallic in Christmas
ornaments to give the tree lights a reflective surface. You will need
#22 or #24 tapestry needles. Although you may hold the canvas in your
hand, I find it easier to stitch if the canvas has been mounted on
stretcher strips.
